How to get the best deal on conservatories
In this chapter we will discuss how to get the best
deal when purchasing your conservatory.
This is all about negotiating.
When you first see you your conservatory designer
he will discuss your requirements i.e. ask you for what purpose
you intend to use the conservatory for and advise you accordingly.
Always listen to what these people have to say as they are more
than just "salespeople", they are very knowledgeable on all aspects
of conservatories. They will:
- Tell you about the company they work for, these are very important
points other wise you won't know who you are dealing with.
- Discuss the various options and designs of conservatories.
- Show you a portfolio of designs of conservatories.
- Inspect the site where the conservatory is to be built.
- Lift any inspection covers to see how deep any drains may be.
- Set out the area where the conservatory is to be built.
- Show you the product i.e. sections of the roof, windows, doors
and locks etc. as before very important so you can judge the quality,
with other companies.
- Discuss the company's guarantees on both product and building
works.
- If the designer has a laptop they may take a picture of your
house and superimpose various designs of conservatories to obtain
your approval.
- Work out a price.
The price given may be in two parts the full price say £25,000.00 and the promotion price £20,000.00 or (perhaps just one price as some companies will give you there best price straight a way) you may also be told that that price is or a limited period only, not necessary true, this is said to make you make a quick decision, we always recommend that you obtain at least 2 quotations so you can compare price with quality remember you cannot have lb steak for the price of lb mince.
Ask to see some of their work, say 2 or 3 conservatories, and talk to the customers and ask:
- Were they happy with the company
- Are the happy with the conservatory
- Did they keep to their original price or were they extra works?
If so by who and how much?
- Did they complete the conservatory on time?
- What time did they start and finish.
- Was the site kept clean i.e. did they clean up at the end of
the day.
- Were the tradespersons tidy and polite?
When you have seen 2 or 3 companies and asked these
questions write them down sit down with a cup of coffee and talk
it over with your partner you will find that your gut feelings will
tell you what company to go with.
When you have decided on the company then ask if they can better
the price, you may be pleasantly surprised remember if you don't
ask you wont get.
Please remember one point don't try to grind the salesperson
into the floor this tactic does not work, always be reasonable,
as there is always common ground where the price is agreeable to
both parties. Then you will get a good job done at the correct price
then everybody is happy.
If the company's best price is £15,000.00 common sense
tells you it cannot be built for £10,000.00
Remember you cannot have lb steak for the price of
lb mince.
